An update :)

10 February 2010

So PHD @ Blackout was ORSM!!! seriously the whole night went perfectly!!!!

I played outside from 11-12 starting after DJ Fez (who played trance)… I started of with a trance tune, Armin Van Buuren – Empty state, a song i have always liked and wanted to play out. After this i went through mostly hard trance/uplifting with a few classics (Mike NRG – lost in dreams) and kept it going from 138Bpm through 145…

I loved every second, and then passed on the decks to DJ Breadmaker who played an awesome Donk set. Soul-t was awesome as always, but being in the game for over 20 years does that :) and S-Dee played quite a good set and i will be listening to him from now on. To sum it up, i cant wait til the next one….

I have a few really good gigs coming up, including something i got wind of today on the 12 march… MEGARA and DJ LEE!!! I cant fkn wait! Also that night are Arbee and X-dream from Sydney. Residents Hazzard, Kazuki and Hektic are playing in the mainroom, with support from MoRaLe, Tech:One (me) and Angus Gibbins outside. I’m playing outside, and this time it might be a little bit more Progressive, a little bit more euphoric and maybe even a little bit more house. Win all round i say :)

So i hope to see you there, and here at these other places:

Friday 26 February 2009: Blackout @ Planet
Friday 12 March 2010: Megara vs DJ Lee X-Dream, Arbee
Sunday 2 May 2010: As The Bell Tolls 2 @ Rockafellas

Open decks, friends, drinks and bright warm sunshine… Everything i needed to wind down the craziness of NYE/NYD. It was the first time i had been to Birdy Num Num and i was quite impressed. It’s an rooftop/upstairs area with a roof, heaps of sitting room and a few private gazebos (which we went early to get :)

Funky house was on the menu (Along with Chips, gravy, cheese and sauce… more about that later) and it was awesome… I was second up and the first dj was playing quite underground funky house, layered grooved with nice percussion. When i came on a lifted the mood a little and played some of my more known funky house tracks, laying the soundtrack for everyone chilling out :)

When i finished i enjoyed a few cold ones with friends… and around 3 plates of chips covered in gravy, then cheese then sauce… trust me, dont knock it til you try it. I enjoyed Adam Madds set (more funky breaks?) and then Dj Real after that… then Freestyle absolutely smashed it!!!!

DJ Adam Madd ran the event, and it went off swish, he even had video feed of the event beaming over the internet via hrmny.net.

Hey guys and girls, hope your well and enjoying your summer! I know i am!

If you havent heard of it here is a little info:

GPO Hotel, Pioneer CDJ2000, SAE Institute and Vicious Records are launching what will undoubtedly be one of the biggest DJ competitions to hit Brisbane! Held downstairs in the Seven40 Bar of The GPO Hotel and commencing Friday November 20, the search will be on for a “DJ of Distinction”.

So i submitted my mix, and I GOT THROUGH!!!! yay! My heat is on Friday the 15th of Jan @ 11:50pm. The venue is the GPO hotel in Fortitude Valley (Brisbane), it’s in the front bar and its quite a nice venue :-)

I will be going against 4 other competitors, each battling out in a 20 minute set. I will be playing a few different styles of house in what i hope to be a really energetic and cohesive set.

So if your bored, or like my music, come along… Come have a few drinks with me as we watch the other competitors and then go skitz on the dancefloor when i go on. :)

If your coming to support me, just say beniii at the door and ill get some extra points!!! woot.

Hope to see you there!!!!

Edit: THanks greg for pointing out the spelling mistake :p

Upcoming gigs:

14 December 2009

Friday 18 December 2009: Hard Dance Brisbane (Hardstyle)

My second HDB appearance, this time is going to be even harder! I’m going to absolutely blow the place away with some deep dark driving hardstyle then on to some more melodic nu-style towards the end. My good friend DJ Julianu is also playing on the night, make sure you come down and check it out :)

Saturday 02 Jan 2009: Arvo Funké @ Birdee Num Num (funky house)

Arvo Funke is a new open decks afternoon at Birdee Num Num, they welcome all style that are fused with funk. The event runs from 3-9pm so its the ideal saturday pre-drinks type setup. (its even got a pool/spa). This is the chance for me to go back to one of my old genres, funky house. It really is a very smooth and melodic and funky (derr) genre… remeniscent of a time when not all music was banging out full force!!! :)

Friday 29 Jan 2009: PHD @ Planet (Hard Trance)

This is the most exciting night to hit Brisbane in as long as i can remember! On tour once again PHD (my old shuffling ground) will be here to rock the planet for one night only. Bringing Soul-T (PHD, Melbourne) and S-Dee (Sydney) to our small hard dance scene. The night is guaranteed to satisfy the needs of any hard dance fan. I’ll be playing outside and getting down with some hard trance, come along, lets get MESSY!!!!! :D

Here is what i have been working on lately… I think it really takes into account the lessons i have learnt about music theory and song structure.

I have really branched out into synthesising my out sounds to make my songs more personal to me.

I hope to revisit this song a little later and fix it up :)

Groovewell (http://pretensionmusic.blogspot.com/)

Yeah very cool mate. That’s a pretty solid riff you’ve got there. It could use some variation however.

The drums you’ve got there are sounding good. Gated snare awesome but there is definitely room for more percussion. that would help to fill it out a bit more and keep it interesting.

countermelodies are working well too. Nice arrangement.

Toilet Trained (http://soundcloud.com/moth-hunter)

I like the sounds you have got there.

I would put some off-beat hats in there to get the off beat groove going better. in fact i would develop the percussion a bit more actually get a bit of variety

In terms of general composition, it felt a bit..well bitty, in the sense i felt it could have built more to slightly more obvious peak. i think if you added some percussive elements to get the song going you could restructure it a little bit.

But, thought production was good, liked the vibe

LifeOnMTV (http://soundcloud.com/machinetooloperation)

acid fuck yeah

yeah the drums could use some work, as mentioned above, i was expecting an offbeat hat and some shakers and stuff hahaha i know it’s cliche, but its effective in getting the groove going.

nice ideas in there, dark at first then not so dark, even a bit festive in some parts.

nice work man

Thierry01 (http://soundcloud.com/thierry-le-dj)

Sounds good i like the acid sound you introduce through out the track sound great for the dance floor but i can’t really hear the Hats i would say rise them up a little..but other than that its really good

Hi everyone how are we all? Sorry about the last minute update this week, but everything has now been finalized so here’s the latest HDB news! :)

Our guest for this week is DJ TechOne/ Beniii(aka Benjamin Doyle).

Benjamin Doyle plays diverse styles in electronic music. He has been playing electro with the name of Beniii down at the Gold Coast supporting some big names in the business such as Kid Kenobi.. however! This young ex-soldier has got alot more to offer than electro.

When it comes to playing his favorite genre hardstyle, he goes by his alias DJ TechOne.

He’s now ready for a change, a change to follow his passion and to conquer his goal: To make a name for himself in the hard dance scene.
